What if You're Standing in Your Promise Land?

Hello friend,

I've been reading through the Bible in a year, and last week, the Holy Spirit revealed something to me that I wanted to share with you.

In Deuteronomy 28:8, it says, "The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you."

When God spoke to the Israelites, He didn’t say,
“I will bless you in the land you prefer.”
He didn’t say, “I will bless you in the land you fight your way into.”
He didn’t even say, “I will bless you in the land that looks impressive to everyone else.”

He said He would bless them in the land He was giving them.

We see this promise threaded throughout Deuteronomy and Joshua; it's a repeated reminder that the blessing is tied to the gift, not their striving.

See, God divided the promised land among the 12 tribes and even explained to them that some would get better land than others, but there must have been comfort for them when God said, "I will bless you in the land I am giving you."

And I wonder how often we miss that.

Because we are so good at wanting a different land.

The land where the diagnosis never came.
The land where the marriage didn’t fracture.
The land where the dream didn’t burn down.
The land where the calling feels easier.
The land where obedience costs less.

But God’s blessing isn't attached to fantasy. It's attached to the place He appointed.

The Israelites didn’t choose Canaan because it fit their five-year plan. In fact, when they first saw it, many were terrified. Giants. Fortified cities. Risk. Unknowns.

And yet the promise stood.

Not: I will bless you once you feel comfortable.
Not: I will bless you once it looks manageable.
But I will bless you in the land I am giving you.

That changes everything.

Because it means the soil of blessing is not found in self-selected ground.
It’s found in surrendered ground.

Maybe your land right now is grief.
Or caregiving.
Or rebuilding.
Or waiting longer than you ever thought you would.

You didn’t circle this place on a map and say, “Yes. This one.”

But what if the blessing isn’t somewhere else?

What if it is here—
in this terrain you would not have chosen,
but that God is still sovereign over?

In Joshua 21:45, it says that not one of all the Lord’s good promises failed. Every word came to pass.

Every. Word.

The land wasn’t always easy.
But the promise was always faithful.

There is a difference between striving for a land and receiving one.

Striving says, “If I can just get there, then I’ll be secure.”
Receiving says, “If God has placed me here, then He will sustain me.”

Striving exhausts.
Receiving steadies.

And sometimes the deepest blessing is not circumstantial prosperity—but intimacy. Dependence. The quiet confidence that you are standing exactly where God has you.

Friend, the blessing you long for may not be waiting in the life you’re trying to build.

It may already be unfolding in the life He has entrusted to you.

And if He has given you this land—even this one...
He will meet you in it.
He will provide in it.
He will bless in it.

You don’t have to chase another territory to find His favor.

Stay faithful where your feet are.

That is holy ground.

I'm so grateful you're here.

P.S. If you’d like more guidance for walking through grief and trauma without bypassing your emotions or your faith, that’s exactly why I wrote The Freedom to Feel. And if you’re longing for more personal support, I’d be honored to walk with you through one-on-one coaching as well. You can learn more about both on my website.

Hello friends, Happy New Year. I know we are already one month in, but sometimes the year starts out slow, and that is okay. I'm learning that life isn't always about being productive or setting new goals; sometimes it's about resting and enjoying the changing weather as it turns colder and the days shorten. Sometimes it's about cuddling up on the couch, reading a good book, and instead of feeling guilty for moments like this, I'm learning to embrace them. I'm allowing myself to rest, because...

Friends, Last night, I sat in a friend’s family room. Shoes kicked off, no makeup, kids interrupting kind of conversation. We caught each other up on the past few days, laughing about the chaos of motherhood, when the conversation shifted, as it often does. She’s the kind of friend you laugh with until your sides ache, but also the one who rolls up her sleeves and climbs into the trenches with you. We’ve weathered so much together these last few years. She stood beside me through some of my...

What September is teaching me!

Hello friends, How can it be that we are welcoming September? If you’re anything like me, you’re left wondering, how did summer slip away so quickly? Each year, time seems to quicken its pace, rushing past no matter how tightly I try to hold it. Even when I lean in fully, soaking up every moment, it still vanishes—like a vapor, a breath, an instant —and it's gone. And yet, this September is slightly different. It carries a weight because it's the reminder that a year since my mom left this...
